The Power of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform

Infrastructure as code on a dark terminal

Click-ops scales exactly as far as one person's memory. The moment a second engineer — or a 2am incident — enters the picture, undocumented console changes become liabilities. Infrastructure as code turns environments into artifacts you can review, test, and reproduce.

Environments you can review

A Terraform pull request shows precisely what will change before it changes: new subnets, resized databases, tightened policies. Teammates review infrastructure with the same rigor as application code, and every change carries an author, a reason, and a rollback path in version control.

Reuse through modules

Well-factored modules encode your organization's hard-won defaults — private subnets, encrypted storage, tagged resources, budget alerts — so new projects inherit good practice instead of rediscovering it. Staging mirrors production because both instantiate the same module, not because someone tried to click identically twice.

Drift is a signal, not a mystery

Scheduled plan runs surface manual changes as drift within hours, not during the next outage. Pair that with state locking, remote backends, and policy checks, and your cloud account becomes boring in the best possible way: predictable, auditable, and cheap to reason about.
